12.19 Vietnam @ Glasslands
This was a party to celebrate the release of the latest issue of the Fader magazine which features Brooklyn southern rockers Vietnam on the cover. The band seemed to be in good spirits & played an impressive set of soulful, rootsy Rock. If their upcoming debut LP can match the consistent high quality of their live shows it looks like 2007 is gonna be a big year for these guys.

12.16 the Chainsaw Trio @ Shindig!
The Chainsaw Trio kicked off Shindig! with an intense set of bluesy, soul influenced Rock & Roll. The crowd started off pretty small but filled up steadily song by song as the band gained momentum with each tune. The songs and performance were of an unusually high quality overall and left the crowd buzzing positively afterwards. The Chainsaw Trio are definitely worth catching live if...

12.15 We Are Scientists @ the Annex
The Annex was packed wall to wall with late night partiers eager to catch Cali-Brooklyn power trio We Are Scientist ripping it up at the debut of NME’s new “Club NME” party at the Annex. 12.15 Billbones @ R&R
Please use Safari of Firefox for the Slideshows Flash Slideshow Roaring back from hiatus Billbones looked leaner & meaner heading into ‘07. The set was typical Billbones - non-stop party rock and at the end the crowd rushed the staged to join the band for some dancing. The bands buzz song “American Radio” got the biggest crowd response of the night. Watch & Listen:...

Another good set from Ra Ra Riot in an unusual but fun setting for Filter Magazines holiday party . The combination of the bands’ unique instrumental setup six piece with electric cello & violin, energetic frontman Wesley Miles, and unlimited Bass beer definitely put the small crowd of downtown hipsters in a festive holiday mood. 12.08 the Coydogs @ Supreme Trading
A quality band with Southern Rock roots, the Coydogs survived a bit of technical difficulty to & came through with an entertaining set. I‘d seen a long string of crappy 80’s influenced bands leading up to this show so The Coydogs confident, melodic style was a welcome change of pace.

11.30 the Draft @ the Knitting Factory
This turned out to be an unusually fun show. The crowd was ready for action and the Draft were up to the challenge playing an intense set of gritty, no bullshit rock. The Gainesville, Florida band focused mostly on material from their outstanding debut In a Million Pieces but mixed in some older material as well. At the end the room started to look like a hardcore show with the entire front...

11.29 Harlem Shakes @ Union Hall
the Harlem Shakes ripped it up again in the basement or Park Slope bocce palace Union Hall. The Band’s less guitar heavy sound covers a pretty wide range and positively differentiates them from the pack of other bands attempting a similar style. Another band to watch for in ’07.
